Laser Automation Solution for Battery lid Side Welding

Release time: 2021-10-26

Laser Automation Solution for Battery lid Side Welding

 1. Customer Requirements

 1.1 Equipment Requirements

The customer requires a fully automated square power battery welding and inspection production line with the following functions:

- Automatic transfer after battery cell casing feeding.

Laser welding for battery sealing.

- Automated insulation resistance testing.

- Automated leak testing (airtightness).

- Barcode labeling.

Welding standards: Smooth, strong welds with no cold joints.

 1.2 Feeding Requirements

- Battery cells are pre-loaded into casings with aligned lids and frames.

- lids must fit flush with casing edges.

Material: Aluminum (Al).

Precision tolerance: Width/thickness ≤ ±0.1mm; lid-casing alignment must be precise.

 2. Technical Solution

The production line includes:

2 laser welding machines

2 testing stations

Automated conveyor system for seamless battery flow.

Line dimensions: ~11,000 × 2,500 × 2,000mm (L×W×H).

 2.1 Welding Process

Fiber laser system with dual workstations for simultaneous welding.

2 robotic arms for loading/unloading (boosts efficiency).

CCD vision positioning ensures precision (≤ ±0.05mm).

Welding specs:

  - Speed: 40mm/s

  - Penetration: 0.40.7mm

  - Weld width: 0.81.2mm

Fume extraction system minimizes pollution.

 2.2 Testing Process

- Post-weld short-circuit and leak tests.

- Automated barcode labeling for traceability.

- Automatic rejection of defective units.

Vacuum testing for airtightness compliance.

- All test data stored with barcode linkage for smart management.

 3. Key Features

1. Dual-station laser welding for high throughput.

2. Separate loading/welding zones for safety.

3. High-precision robotic handling (minimizes manual work).

4. Integrated fume purification meets environmental standards.

 4. Technical Specifications

Line dimensions: 11,000 × 2,600 × 2,000mm

2 laser welders

2 cooling systems

4 workstations (2 welding + 2 testing)

Max power: 55 kW

Compressed air: 500L/min, 0.8MPa

Vacuum system: 60L/min (oil-free pump + filters)

This solution integrates welding, inspection, marking, and transfer into a high-efficiency, precise, and fully automated battery lid side-welding process.
