Laser welding, especially for manufacturers engaged in power battery module PACK welding, choosing the right welding auxiliary system is quite important, as it not only affects the precision of the welding but also impacts the quality of the laser welding and the level of the welding process on its surface. So, what auxiliary systems are commonly used for welding batteries that are worth our understanding? Let's take a look at what functions these systems have.
1. Laser Welding Visual Positioning System
The laser visual welding positioning system consists of three parts: the visual system, the motion mechanism, and the laser welding system, which are linked through the calibration of the visual system. Calibration is divided into two parts:
One is that the visual system and the laser welding system unify the coordinate systems of the visual system and the laser welding system through a high-precision nine-point marking algorithm.
The other part of the calibration is the coordinate system calibration of the welding pressure head door between the visual system and the motion mechanism.
In actual welding production, we find that the position and angle of the welding are calculated first, and the offset is sent to the motion mechanism. The motion system uses the position offset to adjust the position of the welding pressure head, while the laser visual welding system adjusts the welding pattern to the accurate welding position using the position and angle offsets.
The laser visual welding positioning system uses geometric profile matching positioning algorithms during the positioning calculation process, with a repeat positioning accuracy of 1/40 sub-pixel, unaffected by uneven lighting.
Finally, combined with line and point finding tools, it facilitates the preparation for positioning various features. The visual welding positioning system replaces manual labor during operation, which can reduce labor costs and also mitigate the uncontrollable situations caused by human emotional fluctuations.
In simpler terms, visual positioning means first inputting the characteristics of each welding part of the product. After entering the relevant parameters, the system will determine whether the welding part is correct based on these parameters, and then control each subsystem mechanism to achieve coordinated welding.
In addition to simple visual positioning, our system can also be upgraded to enable the visual system to inspect the quality of the weld after welding, including rechecking the size, position, and appearance of the welding marks to determine whether they meet welding requirements.
Through the application of vision, we can greatly improve the yield rate of product welding.

2. Laser Focus Height Measurement System
This height measurement system looks relatively simple, but its role cannot be ignored. It can automatically detect the laser focus and monitor the laser focal length, improving processing stability. When we weld a certain type of power battery, we need to set the focus parameters to maximize the welding efficiency. However, for power batteries, especially the welding of the pole connections of the cell modules, even slight deviations in welding can affect the welding effect. Moreover, the welding parts themselves are not flat, and the types of battery modules being welded are not fixed. Therefore, using the laser focus height measurement system can easily solve such problems.
3. Universal Welding Pressure Head
As the name suggests, its function is clear. We all know that laser welding also requires good preconditions. Normally, when we weld workpieces, the fit distance between the workpieces needs to be very tight, even requiring that the distance between the workpieces cannot exceed 0.1mm (the welding swing head can be slightly relaxed to within 0.5mm). For example, when welding soft-pack battery packs, the connection welding between the tabs requires this universal pressure head. After pressing with this copper pressure head, it can conveniently ensure that the fit between the tabs meets the conditions for laser welding, which is beneficial for improving the yield rate of welding!
The universal pressure head is generally designed using copper material, with a leak hole in the middle. The beam directly acts on the workpiece through this hole, thus achieving pressed welding. The shape and specifications of the hole need to be designed according to the user's welding workpiece, with options for round, oval, and rectangular shapes.
4. Vacuum Cleaner
This can be purchased by the user, but it needs to be more integrated with the laser platform, and the suction position should meet the requirements. The layout of the ventilation pipe can be designed by the laser welding equipment manufacturer. The vacuum cleaner is mainly to suck away some welding slag that appears during welding to prevent slag accumulation from affecting the laser irradiation. It can also prevent the spraying of slag from affecting the safety and lifespan of the galvanometer field lens. For a dust-free workshop, this is an essential component. After using the welding machine, we can clean and maintain the surface of the galvanometer to improve the service life of the components.
