Laser welding technology is widely used in the manufacturing of new energy vehicle batteries!

With the improvement of people's living standards, the issues of high emissions and high pollution from traditional fuel vehicles have received increasing attention, which has brought broad opportunities for new energy vehicles.
In the manufacturing process of lithium batteries or battery packs for new energy vehicles, there are more than 20 processes that need to achieve electrical connections or sealing through welding, and the quality of welding plays a crucial role in the safety performance of the entire vehicle.
1. Battery cover welding
The 18650 battery is a lithium-ion cylindrical battery, mainly used in Tesla's new energy vehicles. The battery cover, as the electrode of the battery, needs to be welded to the battery substrate. The 0.3mm stainless steel cover is welded to 0.5mm aluminum, requiring a bright weld seam and a welding tensile strength of over 200N.
Using Chuangxin continuous fiber laser for swing welding, compared to YAG spot welding, the welding firmness and sealing are better, the weld seam is larger, the contact area between the cover and the battery substrate is larger, the weld seam is bright white, and the welding tensile strength reaches over 255N.

2. Power battery positive and negative pole welding
For square batteries, each battery needs to be connected in series and parallel through positive and negative pole columns to form a battery module unit, so each battery must weld a pair of positive and negative pole columns. The negative pole column material is copper, and the positive pole column material is aluminum, requiring a round weld seam that does not turn black, with a melt width of 1.2mm and a melt depth of 0.5mm, ensuring firm welding.
The battery pole columns are made of copper and aluminum, which are high-reflective materials, requiring good laser beam quality and high energy density to ensure complete penetration and firm welding. Using Chuangxin laser fiber laser for swing welding provides a larger contact area, and the surface of the welded samples maintains the original color of the substrate, with a bright finish, ensuring complete penetration of the pole columns and stronger welding with the battery unit.

3. Motor stator copper PIN welding
The power source of new energy vehicles has shifted from the engines of traditional fuel vehicles to electric motors, which mainly consist of stators and rotors. The copper PINs inside the stator need to be welded together, requiring a small melt width, a melt depth greater than 3mm, and a tested shear force greater than 400N, without burning the paint layer during welding.
The stator PINs are made of red copper, and with high requirements for melt depth and shear force, using a high beam quality continuous fiber laser for welding can ensure a deep melt depth with a sufficiently small melt width, guaranteeing enough firmness to ensure that the stator PINs do not break during high-speed rotation of the motor. The results of welding motor stator copper PINs with Chuangxin laser fiber laser show that the melt width, melt depth, shear force, and appearance of the welding surface all meet the welding requirements for new energy vehicles.
