Welding of polymer soft pack battery tabs and protection boards is a necessary processing step for every cell, as it provides better protection for the safety of each soft pack cell. Therefore, many cell manufacturers use laser welding machines to complete this processing, which is also easier to automate. Here, we recommend a semi-automatic laser welding system that uses a turntable and visual monitoring. It is considered semi-automatic mainly because the loading and unloading require manual operation. Let's take a look at its structure and workflow.

I. Equipment Structure
1. The structure includes a force application plate, where the rotating plate is divided into eight working positions. The size of each position is consistent with the size of the soft pack battery, including the protection board added later and the two segments of wire connected to the protection board. This forms a standard working position, meaning that the soft pack cell, protection board, and the two segments of wire connected to the protection board are all in a consistent working position.
2. Pure fiber laser
We do not advocate the use of YAG lasers, but they can be configured according to user requirements.
3. Pressing system
This pressing mechanism is mainly to ensure that the protection board and the two tabs of the soft pack cell fit together better, allowing the laser to safely complete the welding process.
4. Galvanometer system
The galvanometer is the channel for the laser output, scanning the workpiece to achieve laser welding.
5. Visual system
The visual system can be omitted if user requirements are not high. Its main role is quality monitoring, eliminating products that do not meet welding standards, and monitoring whether the welding position of the tabs and protection board is correct. It records products with issues such as tab deviation from the protection board welding point or welding quality problems, and eliminates them. The visual system and galvanometer operate in a coaxial working mode.

II. Workflow
1. Two workers are needed for loading: one worker loads the soft pack cell, while the other loads the protection board.
2. When the rotating plate rotates to the designated welding position, the pressing mechanism presses the protection board against the tabs of the soft pack battery. Data is recorded through visual tracking and positioning, and laser welding is achieved through the galvanometer system.
3. Products with welding quality issues are eliminated, and manual unloading is performed (unloading is relatively simple and can also be assisted by the mechanism structure for automatic unloading).
If users have high production efficiency requirements, a dual turntable mode can be adopted to better improve welding speed. The visual monitoring mentioned above can be configured at the user's discretion. However, for production efficiency and quality issues, adding a visual system can better ensure the consistency of battery quality, avoid quality and safety issues, improve production efficiency, and enhance the competitiveness of manufacturers' products in the market, gaining user appreciation!
