Ultra-fast lasers will become an important mainstay in the application of laser processing technology!
Professor Zhong Minlin, President of the American Laser Society, expressed at the 2019 World Laser Manufacturing Conference when introducing the innovative applications of ultrafast lasers in the preparation of nanostructures: "Is there a possibility for humans to surpass nature? I think there is."
The first meeting of the 13th China (Shenzhen) Laser and Intelligent Equipment Expo at the 2019 World Laser Manufacturing Conference gathered nearly 20 optical and laser industry experts and scholars from the United States, Russia, Switzerland, Lithuania, Belgium, Australia, Japan, Singapore, and other countries and regions to give speeches, deeply analyzing the current state of the global laser industry and discussing the strategies and prospects of enterprises and the industry.
According to Zhong Minlin, by using ultrafast lasers to manufacture micro-nano structures, material properties can be changed, fog-resistant glass can be produced, hydrophobic materials can be created, and the efficiency of water-to-hydrogen conversion can be improved. "By studying the microscopic structures of natural organisms and using laser technology to design nanostructures, we aim to surpass nature."
The rapid development of ultrafast laser research is attributed to the CPA technology that won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2018, which is a technology capable of amplifying laser intensity. With the application of this technology, the intensity of laser usage has been revolutionarily increased, driving the precision processing of special materials and the development of ultrafast dynamics research. However, lasers are not only applied in high-end fields; this technology, known as "the fastest knife and the most precise ruler," is widely used in industrial production, medical and health care, communications, and military applications.
"By 2022, the global laser technology market is expected to reach $15.38 billion, which is a huge market opportunity," said Renaz, Senior Vice President of Hannover Messe.
The rapid development of the laser industry is attributed to the explosive growth of China's manufacturing industry in the past decade. Compared to traditional tools, laser processing using photothermal effects is fast, with minimal surface deformation, and has obvious advantages in applying to various materials. With the continuous improvement of domestic equipment, many laser devices have achieved domestic substitution, and better localization configuration and services have reduced the cost of laser equipment, leading to large-scale applications in some industrial manufacturing fields.
Academician Yao Jianquan of the Chinese Academy of Sciences stated in an interview, "Compared to core technology equipment in chips and aerospace engines, the technological gap of China's laser industry compared to foreign countries is not significant."
Zhu Xiao, President of the China Optics Valley Laser Industry Association, believes that laser processing is gradually expanding from special processing to general processing. For this, deep integration of lasers with various industries is needed, and laser processing has entered an era of widespread application.
At the expo site, 200 well-known laser brands showcased various laser cutting/welding solutions, including advanced laser technology, laser precision processing, 3D printing, laser processing products, optical materials, and components. Jiang Yuyang, Deputy Director of the Shenzhen Municipal People's Congress, President of the Shenzhen Science and Technology Association, Gao Zhan, Deputy Director of the Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology, Academician Yao Jianquan of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, President of the Guangdong Laser Industry Association Hou Ruohong, and Renaz, Senior Vice President of Hannover Messe, delivered speeches at the opening ceremony, attended by over 300 leaders from domestic manufacturing industry associations, foreign laser association experts, and corporate representatives.
Chen, an engineer at SHINHOP Laser Technology, stated: "The application of ultrafast laser processing will change people's perception of traditional laser processing. It is a revolutionary enhancement of laser technology in industrial applications. With the integration of artificial intelligence technology, industrial intelligent laser applications will become a reality."
