Whether it is the flame tube of the fighter jet engine or the missile, the flame tube of the shell is an important component of the engine combustion chamber, and it is also a part that needs to withstand high temperatures. It endures high-temperature combustion through fuel and compressed air, converting the chemical energy of the fuel into thermal energy and then into kinetic energy. However, with the further improvement of engine technology and the increasing quality requirements for engines, the temperature that the engine needs to withstand has also increased. To ensure that the flame tube operates stably and continuously in extremely high-temperature environments, it must be cooled. One of the main methods currently used is to coat the alloy material of the flame tube and combine it with film cooling.
For the processing of film holes in flame tubes with thermal barrier coatings, the domestic practice usually involves drilling holes first and then coating, which leads to issues such as random small hole diameter due to coating material deposition. On the other hand, using long pulse laser processing for film holes in flame tubes with thermal barrier coatings results in defects such as splashing, ablation, and coating chipping on the surface, which severely affects the service life of the flame tube.
In response to the above technical challenges, the Xi'an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics has overcome a number of core technologies, key processes, and integrated system technologies. The developed flexible flame tube ultra-short pulse laser precision hole-making equipment based on robotic arms and the complete set of processing technology have achieved high-quality one-time hole-making for irregular film holes in flame tubes with thermal barrier coatings in China, fundamentally solving many technical problems and providing a new processing method for the manufacturing of film holes in flame tubes with thermal barrier coatings. This has significant supporting significance for accelerating the independent development process of commercial aviation engines in China.
The process technology of aviation engines is inherently complex and can be considered the crown jewel of the industrial sector. Without a strong technical foundation, it is difficult to develop. Currently, only a few countries in the world can independently develop engines, missiles, and other laser-guided bombs. As the materials for these weapons increase and the process requirements become more complex, laser welding machines or laser cutting machines have become a strong guarantee for the production of these components. Therefore, the laser welding machine for engine flame tubes is just the first step in the long march of manufacturing high-end components.
